Mediterranean Diving Guide for Travellers

By OSEA Scuba Steve

Mediterranean diving is about rocky reefs, wrecks, seagrass and patient observation rather than endless tropical colour. Visibility and temperature swing with season, and the best days reward slow buoyancy work.

Signature destinations

  • Medes Islands — reserve diving and large groupers
  • Mallorca — caves and rocky coastlines
  • Malta & Gozo — wrecks, caves and the Blue Hole area (conditions dependent)

Marine life to study first

Start with dusky grouper, moray, octopus, seahorse and the Mediterranean fish hub.

Practicalities

Thicker wetsuits in spring/autumn, jellyfish awareness in warm months, and respect for marine reserves. Plan logistics with the trip planner and identify photos with the fish ID app.
