Practical Scuba Diving Tools
Choose the tool that matches your question. Scuba Steve brings planning, marine-life learning and practical checks together, while leaving dive decisions with your training and verified information.
Marine Species ID
Start with a dive photo when you want to explore what you saw. Marine Species ID suggests likely matches and clues to compare, including markings and location. Check lookalikes and verify a proposed identification before treating it as confirmed.
Dive Trip Planner
Build a trip brief around your destination, dates, experience and interests. Use it to organise packing, transport and questions for operators. Availability, live conditions and site suitability need direct local confirmation.
AI Dive Chat
Ask focused questions about equipment, travel, marine-life follow-ups or concepts from your training. Give the context and ask about assumptions. Chat helps you prepare questions and review ideas; it does not replace instruction or emergency support.
Surface Interval Tools
Check the elapsed time between dives using an end time and a planned start time. Review the readiness checklist alongside your computer or agency procedures. This tool does not calculate nitrogen loading, pressure-group transitions or no-fly clearance.
Gas and dive-table calculators
The existing tools collection includes SAC and gas-consumption calculations, MOD, EAD, best mix, oxygen partial pressure and unit conversion. Choose the calculator for the question you are working on, enter the correct units and read its limits. These calculations do not measure the gas in your cylinder or assess your fitness to dive.
The separate Dive Tables planner includes pressure-group and repetitive-dive calculations for its enabled metric-air dataset. Gas and unit combinations with incomplete reference data remain unavailable. Do not mix table systems or treat an app result as a replacement for your approved tables and training.
Use calculators within their stated limits
The interactive tools collection may offer additional calculators or reference material. Read each tool notice before using an output. A disabled calculator is unavailable, not a reason to substitute a guess or use an unrelated tool.
For safety-related planning, use the inputs, units and procedures specified by your training and equipment. Verify any result that affects a dive profile using the approved method you are trained to follow.
A useful order for a trip
Begin with the trip planner, clarify operator questions in chat and confirm arrangements directly. On the dive day, follow local briefings and your approved planning method. After an encounter, use Marine Species ID to learn from a photograph. Each tool supports a particular task rather than clearing the whole trip.
Frequently asked questions
Do these tools replace a dive computer?
No. They do not replace your computer, tables, certified training or local judgement.
Where should I start?
