Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 October 2026This page explains, at a practical level, information Scuba Steve AI may process. OSEA Diver Ltd operates the service. The exact information depends on which features you use and what you choose to provide.
Information you provide
- Account details: an email address, display name, profile image and provider account identifier when you sign in through Firebase Authentication.
- Questions and other content: prompts and context you submit to Ask Steve, planning and briefing tools, quizzes, feedback or support. Chat history is stored in your browser; some saved records and account data may be stored in Firebase when you use save or sync features.
- Images and location: images you submit for identification or choose to save. Photos deliberately uploaded as public map sightings can be visible to other users. A private saved dive photo is stored in your account’s private storage area. You may also provide a location in text or map actions.
How information is processed
- AI requests, including relevant text or an image you submit, may be sent to Google’s Gemini services to generate a response. The service also uses Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, storage and backend processing.
- Scuba Steve records limited service metrics. Depending on the feature, these can include a hashed question fingerprint, a topic label, a short response excerpt, feature usage and timestamps. The normal chat history is kept in your browser unless you use a feature that saves or syncs it.
- Website analytics and error monitoring may process technical events and diagnostics through Vercel Analytics and Sentry. Billing or donations, when used, may involve Stripe.
- Requests to the MCP integration are rate-limited using a hashed network identifier. The integration does not require access to your Firebase account data for its current tools.
Retention and deletion
Information is retained for the period needed to provide the feature, operate and secure the service, meet legal obligations, and resolve support issues. Retention differs between browser storage, Firebase records, public sightings, and service-provider logs; OSEA Diver does not promise one universal deletion period. Removing browser data clears locally stored chat history on that device. To ask about account or content deletion, email steve@scubasteve.rocks and identify the relevant account and content. Some copies may remain temporarily in backups or provider systems under their retention practices.
Sharing and security
Information is shared with service providers only as needed to host, secure, analyze, bill for, or operate the features you use, and where required by law. Public map sightings are visible by design. We do not state that any internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and contact
You can choose what to enter or upload, avoid sharing sensitive personal information in prompts, and remove content using available app controls. For privacy questions or requests, contact steve@scubasteve.rocks.
Scuba Steve AI is an educational dive companion. Do not submit information you do not want processed by the service providers needed to answer your request.
